On February 27, 2026, more than 400 builders, institutions, regulators, and crypto enthusiasts came together at Crown Towers Sydney, Barangaroo, for XRP Australia 2026: one of the largest XRPL-focused gatherings Australia has hosted. The energy in the room was electric from the moment we kicked off.
The day opened with a warm welcome from our APAC Growth Manager Wayne Zwar and CEO Sadaf Jadran. What followed was a full programme packed with honest conversations about where XRP and the XRPL are heading, not just hype, but real utility, institutional readiness, and practical next steps for the APAC region.
Here’s our session-by-session recap of the standout moments and insights from the day.
Morning Programme Highlights
XRP as an Asset Class: Led by Sadaf Jadran
Sadaf guided a thoughtful discussion with Blockchain Backer, unpacking the evolution of digital assets as both utility-driven technologies and investable assets. The discussion bridged real-world value transfer with cycle theory and liquidity flows, delivering a clear macro lens on the current stage of the market cycle.
Fireside with Alexis Sirkia: With Crypto Eri
Crypto Eri joined Alexis Sirkia, Executive Chairman of Yellow, for a candid fireside chat that delivered sharp, no-nonsense insights into current market trends and strategic opportunities in the blockchain space. They also unpacked how Yellow Network thinks about high-frequency, off-chain activity with on-chain settlement, and why that design choice matters as more liquidity routes through XRPL-connected rails (including the XRPL EVM sidechain).
Focus on Aquarium and BlockVault: Andrew Kaskaniotis
Andrew walked us through practical custody and digital asset management solutions that institutions and high-net-worth individuals are already putting to work. He also framed the native XRPL opportunity set, AMMs, liquidity tooling, and the lending roadmap, and introduced BlockVault, a build that emerged from XRPL Commons’ Aquarium residency, as a concrete example of what “shipping on the ledger” looks like in 2026.
SMSF’s in a Multi-Asset World: Shyla Khan (Yellow) with Kate Cooper & Natalia Clack
Shyla Khan from Yellow led this session on how Self-Managed Super Funds can thoughtfully add digital assets to their portfolios. The panel gave clear, practical guidance for Australian investors navigating regulation and risk.
Focus on Xaman: Robert Kiuru
Robert shared the latest updates on the popular XRPL wallet Xaman, highlighting usability improvements that keep it as a favourite tool across the community. He also previewed Flare’s Smart Accounts integration direction in Xaman, a path toward curated, lower-friction access to DeFi-style vault experiences while keeping users self-custodial.
The Markets Coming On-Chain: Asheesh Birla
Asheesh brought real examples to life, showing how billion-dollar markets are moving on-chain. He spotlighted Evernorth, lending protocols, and single asset vaults, a clear signal that tokenization is shifting from theory to execution, and tied that story to Evernorth’s roadmap to scale a major institutional XRP treasury alongside a public listing pathway (including the proposed XRPN ticker referenced in market materials).
XRP as the North Star: Highlight Panel
Asheesh Birla · Brad Garlinghouse · Monica Long
This panel quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the day. Moderated by Asheesh Birla, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse and President Monica Long shared a refreshingly grounded perspective on why XRP remains Ripple’s guiding “North Star.” Garlinghouse underscored the scale of Ripple’s recent expansion, including a multi-year run of acquisitions now totalling more than US$3 billion since 2023, while Long reinforced APAC (and Australia in particular) as a corridor where enterprise-grade deployments are moving from pilots into production systems.
Garlinghouse put it perfectly:
“It’s not one switch. There are hundreds of switches. Thousands of switches, and all these little switches, little by little, add up to an exponential impact.”
Instead of waiting for one massive breakthrough, the panel emphasised steady progress through infrastructure wins, partnerships, integrations, and regulatory steps forward. The conversation left many feeling optimistic about the road ahead for XRP, RLUSD, treasury flows, and cross-border payments.
For APAC, the message was clear: Australia’s improving regulatory environment could position it as a strong gateway for institutional adoption in the region.
Afternoon Programme Highlights
Hugo Philion: Flare
Flare Co-founder Hugo Philion gave an exciting update on Flare 2.0, including non-custodial FXRP and new tools aimed at bringing institutional-grade features and privacy to decentralized networks. He also shared an ambitious growth marker for XRP interacting with Flare-connected flows via Xaman: signalling a push from today’s multi‑billion baseline toward an even larger footprint by mid‑2026 as integrations mature.
Beyond Traditional Finance: Hugo Philion · Ross Edwards (moderated by Crypto Eri)
Moderated by Crypto Eri, this session explored how DeFi can complement: rather than compete with: traditional finance. The focus was on reducing counterparty risk while keeping the speed and transparency that XRPL and connected networks deliver so well.
The Institutional Layer: Moderated by Danella Draper (CryptoQueenAU)
Featuring John O’Loghlen, Rachael Jones, Adrian Prezelozny, and Alexis Sirkia, this panel delivered a focused discussion on institutional requirements for blockchain infrastructure, reliable settlement, stablecoin integration, tokenised assets, and compliant DeFi frameworks. The sentiment in the room signalled a decisive shift from exploration to execution.
The Programmable Ledger: Led by Wave of Innovation’s Creative Director, with Ayo Akinyele & Shen Morincome
This session dove into Ripple’s freshly released Institutional DeFi Roadmap and what makes the XRPL uniquely programmable at the protocol level. The team explored the three core pillars, Payments & FX, Collateral & Liquidity, and Credit & Lending, covering live features like MPTs, Permissioned DEX, Batch Transactions, and Credentials that institutions can use today.
A standout moment came from Ayo Akinyele, who urged the industry to “make privacy sexy again” through upcoming confidential transfers tailored for institutions. Shen Morincome shared practical builder perspectives on turning these capabilities, including smart escrows, the lending protocol (XLS-65/66), and the XRPL EVM Sidechain, into real-world applications, alongside a forward view from Gen3 Labs (Aigent.run) on how autonomous agents are beginning to reshape on-chain execution (from liquidity automation to more operational treasury-style workflows).
Navigating APAC Regulations: Rachael Jones · Robert Walters · Bill Morgan
Experts broke down the evolving regulatory picture across APAC, offering practical compliance tips for builders and institutions operating in Australia and beyond.
Security and Privacy in Crypto: Duty of Care: Moderated by Danella Draper, with Dee Skillicorn · Graham Speake
Security remains a critical priority as the digital asset ecosystem matures. This panel delivered clear, actionable insights on wallet security, institutional custody, emerging threat vectors, and the increasing duty of care required as greater capital enters the market.
The Next Wave of Innovation: AI + XRPL: Led by Jay (CMO, Wave of Innovation), with Ben Flint · Shen Morincome · Kate Cooper
Jay led a forward-looking discussion on how artificial intelligence can combine with XRPL’s speed and reliability to unlock powerful new use cases and efficiencies. This session felt like a genuine glimpse into what’s next.
AMA with David Schwartz: Interviewed by Sadaf Jadran
We closed the day on a high with Sadaf Jadran sitting down with XRPL CTO Emeritus David Schwartz (“JoelKatz”). The AMA covered technical developments, builder advice, and the future of the ledger - and yes, it included a memorable (and viral) koala moment that had everyone smiling.
Overall Themes & What It Means for APAC
Looking back at the full day, a few clear themes stood out:
- Institutional adoption is gaining real momentum, with the conversation shifting toward practical infrastructure and execution.
- XRPL’s strengths: speed, low cost, programmability, and privacy features: make it especially well-suited for APAC use cases in payments, tokenization, and DeFi.
- Regulatory progress in Australia is creating genuine tailwinds and helping position the country as a fintech hub in the region.
- Security, privacy, and duty of care are now table stakes as adoption scales.
- The convergence of AI and blockchain feels like the next major innovation wave.
- Builder energy is strong, from XRPL Commons’ Aquarium residencies to deeper wallet integrations (Xaman × Flare) and hackathon projects that used RLUSD, lending primitives, and smart escrow.
Overall, XRP Australia 2026 felt like a turning point, the moment when discussion started turning into scaled, real-world utility.
